The Willow Open Challenge

Although the sun doesn’t rise until 4.42am, the boys will hit their 1st shots at:-

04.15 –  Princes - The 6,880 yards of the Shore and Dunes nine holes provide their first unknown challenge as only Paul has played Princes before – should be fun in the semi dark!

A short car transfer takes them to:-

06.45 – Royal St Georges – The shortest of the 6 courses at 6,609 yards is a favourite of both Justin and Alistair. Whoever of these two shoots the lower score, will definitely make it an even longer day than it’s already going to be for the other!

Another short car journey brings them to:-

09.15 – Royal Cinque Ports – It is hoped that Alistair’s opening shot will be an improvement on his last effort at Cinque Ports, where his tee-shot cannoned off the club-house! The 6,960 yards of Cinques Ports is the longest of the 6 courses.

A helicopter will then whisk the boys from the 18th green at Cinque Ports to the 1st tee at Hoylake :-

13.45 – Royal Liverpool – The first leg of the Lancashire challenge is a gruelling 6,921 yards around Hoylake. Tiger Woods tamed the course in the 2006 Open by only using his driver once in the 4 days, in order to stay short of the bunkers. That is unlikely to be a problem for the intrepid four!

Jump back onto the chopper:-

16.45 - Royal Birkdale – The challenge facing the boys on the 6,817 yards of Birkdale is best borne out by the fact that Padraig Harrington won the Open in 3 OVER par last year. The only similarity between the boys’ efforts and Harrington’s victory, is that both will finish Birkdale sometime early on Sunday evening!

Back onto the chopper for the final journey to:-

19.45 - Royal Lytham and St Annes – Another relatively short course at 6,630 yards, but also a course that none of them have played before. They'll have to negotiate their way round the course before darkness engulfs them!

The total length of the courses is a combined 40,817 yards. With some military golf forecast (left, right, left, right), it is anticipated that the boys will be walking upwards of 35 miles, whilst carrying their bags at all times. It is also anticipated that the four will be very tired little bunnies on the night of June 21st!
